Grant McCargo died peacefully at his home in Edgartown while surrounded by his family on Thursday, July 9 after a short period of failing health.

He was born in 1929 in Pittsburgh, Pa. and was a longtime summer resident of the Vineyard beginning in the late 1940's with his parents, Graham and Mary McCargo, and sister Marion McCargo Bell. Grant was a thoughtful and loving husband and father who lived life to its fullest.

He was a graduate of Choate School and Brown University, He resided in Sewickley, Pa., Palm Beach and Edgartown. He was a passionate yachtsman and was a member of the Edgartown Yacht Club, the New York Yacht Club, the Chappaquiddick Beach Club, the Boat House and the Edgartown Reading Room. He was a successful real estate developer and entrepreneur who founded many companies.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Audrey Holding McCargo, his four children, Diana McCargo Swift, Heather McCargo McNiff, Grant McCargo 3rd and Tom McCargo, and his three stepchildren, Robert McLean, Betsy McLean Woodruff and Clare McLean Cross, and twenty grandchildren.
