Maj. Peter L. Regan (Ret.) of Dayton, Ohio, beloved son of Eulalie M. and the late Peter L. Regan of Oak Bluffs, died Wednesday, Nov. 9. He was 57.

As a native of Oak Bluffs growing up in the 1950s and 1960s, at the age of 14, he accomplished the feat of circling the Island on foot with three of his friends.

He was mostly schooled in Oak Bluffs, finishing at St. John’s Prep School in Danvers. He attended the University of Hartford, with a planned major in music. Taking a hiatus at the end of his sophomore year, he turned his attention to the U.S. Air Force; during this time, he not only advanced professionally but furthered his educations, obtaining an MBA.

Specializing in military contracting, his breadth of experience covered the full spectrum from contracting, to program management, to manufacturing, and to administration. His last assignment, as a civilian, was at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, again as a contract specialist.

Peter was tireless in his devotion to his family, neighbors, many friends, his work and his country. To those who knew and loved him, he was larger than life with a smile to match. He never lost his love of music; he organized, sponsored and played in several small bands, encouraging a variety of talent along the way.

Although an infrequent visitor over the years, he never lost sight of his beloved Vineyard. After much wishful thinking and many attempts at returning, he has finally made it home.

Peter is survived by his two sons, Peter E. of Silver Spring, Md., and Jonathan P., his wife, Jennifer, and baby Ramona, of Cleveland Heights, Ohio; his sister, Eulalie Gutman, her husband, Dennis and their daughter, Christine of South Easton; his brother, Philip, his wife, Deborah, and their children Shelby, Jared and Jeremy of Oak Bluffs. He was predeceased by his daughter Kimberly.

A mass was celebrated Saturday, Nov. 19 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in Oak Bluffs, followed by interment at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
