Ollie Nance Edward died Sunday, Oct. 7. She was 93. She died peacefully at home in Essex, Conn. surrounded by her family, just days after she and her husband Garth celebrated a wonderfully happy 73rd wedding anniversary.

Ollie was the daughter of Ross Nance and Ollie Richmond of Petersberg, Ill. She married Garth Edwards in September 1939. They had a long and loving marriage, enjoying their years in Detroit, Washington D.C., Aiken, S.C., Manhasset, N.Y. and especially their many happy years in Kensington, Conn.

She had a special love for her beautiful home in Chilmark. They enjoyed the Island for more than 50 years, where life was filled with family, many friends and joyful days.

She is survived by her husband, Garth; her children, Nancy Thompson and her husband Hilly of Dover, Garth N. Edwards and his wife Jenny of Southport, N.C.; and her six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She will remain in their hearts forever.

A celebration of Ollie’s life was held at Essex Meadows, in Essex, Conn. on Oct. 12. There will also be a memorial service for her on Martha’s Vineyard during the summer of 2013.
