Joanne Davis of Edgartown and Essex, Conn. died on Dec. 6 at the age of 89. She was born on March 29, 1923 in Milwaukee, Wis., and went to the Mary Wheeler School in Providence, R.I. Later, she attended Connecticut College in New London, Conn. She married John T. Monzani Jr. of Plainfield, N.J. and Edgartown. He was the one who introduced her to Martha’s Vineyard in 1955. They spent summers in a wonderful house on Cottage street which had marvelous crenelation on its roof, and were members of the Edgartown Yacht Club and the Edgartown Golf Club. They had four daughters, Jan, Sue, Lisa and Chloe. Mr. Monzani died in 1969. In 1973 Joanne married Kelso Davis of Essex, Conn. and Boca Grande, Fla., but Edgartown remained her summer place.

While in Edgartown Mrs. Davis and two friends, Peggy Berry and Carolie Verbeck, had a decorating business, Trio Interiors, which kept many of the Edgartown houses in the style they had become accustomed to. In later years, after her husband’s death, Mrs. Davis enjoyed learning the history of Edgartown’s old houses and spent many happy hours walking the old streets with her dogs, a labrador named Gus and a shih tzu named Mozart.

In addition to her two husbands, Mrs. Davis was predeceased by her daughters Jan and Lisa. She is survived by her sisters, Mudgie Djerf of Concord and Trudie Kloppenburg of Mequon, Wis.; and her daughters, Sue Johnson of Boston and Chloe Monzani of Cambridge; her grandchildren, Merrill and John Swig, Courtney and Tyler Clough, and Christina and Emily Berger.

Services were held on Dec. 16. Interment was private at Tower Hill in Edgartown.
