Betty Richey Gill of Oak Bluffs and formerly of Hampstead, N.C., and Mount Carmel, Conn., died peacefully, surrounded by family, at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital on Jan. 31. She was 87.

She was born in New Haven, Conn. to the late Irving and Gladys Richey. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Ronald F. Gill of Cranston, R.I., who she met on Martha’s Vineyard where their families summered every year. They retired to North Carolina, where she was an avid bowler and golfer.

She was the mother of Ronald F. Gill Jr. and his late wife Wanda of Durham, Conn. and Deborah RG Westervelt and her husband James of Oak Bluffs. She was also the grandmother of Courtney W. Marek and her husband Andrew of Vineyard Haven; Lesley W. Heidt and her husband Christopher of Oak Bluffs; and Kimberly Lane of Florida; and Margaret Bowers and her husband Donald of South Carolina; the great-grandmother of seven and the great-great grandmother of two.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Doris Peck of Connecticut, and her brother, Robert Richey of California.
