Leon T. Matthys, of West Yarmouth and formerly of Mashpee, died at Mayflower Place Nursing Center on Saturday, April 20, 2013. He was 92. He was the husband of Elizabeth (Chris) Matthys for 62 years.

Mr. Matthys was born in Stamford, Conn. He achieved Eagle Scout status in the Boy Scouts of America as a youth. He graduated from Boston University, and during his career was a marketing and advertising manager in various industrial companies throughout the country. In addition, he served in the Army during World War II. An avid fly fisherman, Mr. Matthys spent many enjoyable years fishing the lakes and streams at the family camp in Maine. His passion and ability as a photographer allowed him to contribute his expertise to various nonprofit organizations. He was a member of the Mashpee Congregational Church, where he enjoyed inspirational fellowship and support. In his retirement years he looked forward to the warmth of Florida winters.

Besides his wife, Mr. Matthys is survived by his daughters, Donna Kelly of Chappaquiddick and Beth Cooper (Scott) of Pennsylvania. He is also survived by his grandchildren C.T., Brendyn, Brianna and Brayelle, and great-grandson Chaz. He was the father to the late Lynne Matthys, as well as grandfather to the late Nicole. A celebration of life will be held May 1, at 11 a.m. in the Mashpee Congregational Church at 259 Shore Drive, Popponesset Market Place, New Seabury. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 2:45 p.m.
