Joyce May Hobby of Oak Bluffs died at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital on Friday, May 10. She was 72.

Joyce was born on April 20, 1941 the daughter of the late Herman Alwardt and Barbara Peters Roderick. She grew up in Oak Bluffs and was a graduate of the Martha’s Vineyard High School. She lived in Pearland, Tex., for 15 years. Joyce enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and spent many enjoyable hours horseback riding.

She is survived by her son, Troy Hobby of Big Sky, Mont., and two daughters, Stacy Spooner of Dudly, and Jill Jackson of Vineyard Haven. She is also survived by a stepbrother Herman Alwardt Jr., two stepsisters, Stella Little and Cheryl West, and five grandchildren, Emily and Matthew Spooner, Callie Jackson, and Brady and Sydney Hobby. She also is survived by her former husband Barry Hobby.

Visitation was held on Monday, May 13 with a graveside service held May 14 at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Oak Bluffs. Donations in Joyce’s memory may be made to the Vineyard Nursing Association, P.O. Box 399, Vineyard Haven, MA 02568. Guests can visit an online register book at ccgfuneralhome.com
