David Chirgwin, brother of Carol Fligor, died on July 10 in Wimauma, Fla., of Parkinson’s. His loving companion of 21 years, Helen Lee, was with him. He was 78 years old.

David’s childhood was spent growing up in Edgartown. His grandparents built the Colonial Inn 102 years ago. His parents, Katherine and Thomas Chirgwin, continued as managers and co-owners of that inn and also the Edgartown Inn.

In 1952 the family moved to Naples, Fla., for the winter months. David graduated from Naples High School in 1953 and attended the University of Florida. He then served four years in the Air Force and returned to live in Naples.

In 1966 David married Polly Jenkins and together they owned and operated a wonderful store, Chirgwins on Broad avenue South in Naples. Polly died in 1990. David is survived by his beloved children, Sarah and her husband, John Hall of Los Angeles, Calif., and Steven Chirgwin, as well as grandchildren Haley and Grant Chirgwin of Naples. His beloved Helen Lee will continue to live in Wimauma. Carol and Dick Fligor and their daughter, Abby, will be attending the memorial service for David on August 10 in Naples with his family and friends.
