J.C. Michael Allen of St. Louis, Mo., and a longtime summer resident of Aquinnah died on Sept. 4 from pancreatic cancer. He was 85.

A funeral service was held on Sept. 29 at Christ Church Cathedral in St. Louis. His remains were interred in the cathedral next to those of his wife, Priscilla R. Allen, who died in St. Louis after a short illness on Feb. 24.

Michael and Priscilla Allen had been regular summer residents of Martha’s Vineyard since 1959, first in Chilmark and after 1970 in Aquinnah. They were active members of Grace Church in Vineyard Haven while on the Island.

Michael Allen was an Episcopal minister. He was rector of St. Mark’s Church in the Bowery in New York city from 1959 to 1970, dean of the Berkley Divinity School in New Haven, Conn., from 1970 to 1976, and dean of Christ Church Cathedral in St. Louis from 1976 until his retirement in 1998.

His death was sudden and unexpected. He and his wife, who died six months earlier, are survived by three children and three grandchildren
