Elga Wheeler of State Road in Chilmark died on the morning of Tuesday, Oct. 15 after a brief illness. She was 100.

Elga lived in Andover and Albany, N.Y., before settling in Chatham Township, N.J., in 1947. Elga was a regular summer visitor to the Island since 1951 and celebrated her 100th birthday in the company of her many Vineyard friends.

Elga is survived by son Edward Wheeler and his wife Elizabeth, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; son Auguste Wheeler of Mill Valley, Calif.; grandson Carleton Wheeler and his wife Virginia of Larchmont, N.Y.; and great-grandchildren Lucas, Samuel and Noelle Wheeler of Larchmont, N.Y. Elga also leaves her dear caretaker, Miss Alison. She was predeceased by her husband, Woolsey M. Wheeler.

She will be interred at Greenwood Cemetary in Brooklyn on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 10:30 a.m., followed by a memorial service/reception at 1 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church of Chatham Township, 240 Southern Boulevard in Chatham, N.J.
