Charlotte Ruben, formerly of Menemsha, died Dec. 10 in Canton.

Charlotte was a career school social worker with the Roslyn Public Schools. She was an avid reader, baker, scrabble player and yoga student who loved the Vineyard and life itself.

She leaves her two children Michael (Kelly) Ruben of Lincoln, R.I., and Sandy (Kirsten) Ruben of Hillsborough, N.C. She leaves her grandchildren Kaya (Mariann) Stone of Alexandria, Va., Rebecca (Jeremy) Ruben of Santa Monica, Calif., Mollie Ruben of Boston, Julianna Ruben of Hillsborough, N.C., and great-grandchildren Nadia Stone and Leo Stone of Alexandria, Va.

Funeral arrangements are private. Donations in her memory may be made to the charity of your choice.

Charlotte was a friend when we both worked in Roslyn. She was uncompromising in her support of those who were the least able to fight for themselves. She had a great heart. I am sorry we didn't communicate later in our lives. You all should be proud of her life.

I would also like to extend my condolences to you and your family. Mother spoke often of Charlotte in a warm way. I never sat in on one of their scrabble games, but the games must have been competitive!They had a wonderful friendship.
