John Hoyt Hathaway of Edgartown died peacefully at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford on Dec. 14. He was 67.

John was born to the late Lewis W. Hathaway Sr. and the late Anna P. Burgess Hathaway on August 27, 1946. John grew up in Ocean Heights in Edgartown.

In high school he was on the track team and played the clarinet in a band every Sunday at the bandstand in Oak Bluffs.

John graduated from the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School and attended Cape Cod Community College before returning home to work in the family shellfish business. He also worked as a carpenter for many years.

He met and married Patricia A. Lawrence of Oak Bluffs. They were married for 26 years and had two children.

He was predeceased by his brother Lewis W. Hathaway of Edgartown.

He is survived by his daughter Lisa LaManque, her husband Aaron and two grandchildren, Lillian and Mark Moscato of Long Island, N.Y.; and by his son Eric Hathaway, his wife Kimberly and two grandchildren Kylie and Jenna Hathaway of Edgartown. He is also survived by his brothers Peter Hathaway of Edgartown and Gary Hathaway of Maine, by his dear friend Jane Davis of Fairhaven, and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of his life will be held in the spring. More information will appear in the Gazette at a later date.
