Evelyn Marie O’Brien, a lifelong resident of Wisconsin before moving to Sarasota, Fla., 11 years ago, died on Jan. 17. She was 103.

Mrs. O’Brien celebrated her 103rd birthday last March with many of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She continued to play an active role within her large family until her death.

She was born in Union Grove, Wisc., on March 24, 1910, one of two daughters of the late Laura and William H. Drinkwater. A graduate of the Union Grove High School, she was married for 52 years to Edwin B. O’Brien who died in 1988. She moved to Florida in 2002 to live with her daughter, Mary Jo (Jody) Reston.

Mrs. O’Brien was also known to many on the Vineyard, where her daughter and son in law Jody and Richard Reston were former longtime owners and publishers of the Vineyard Gazette. The Restons lived year round in Edgartown for nearly three decades until their retirement, and Mrs. O’Brien was a frequent visitor there.

She is survived by four children, Thomas O’Brien and his wife Patricia of Milwaukee, Wis.; two daughters, Mary Jo Reston and her husband Richard of Siesta Key, Fla., and Kathleen Maybee of Sarasota, Fla.; Patrick O’Brien of Sarasota, Fla.; a nephew, William Gibson of Sturtevant, Wis.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Robert O’Brien; her sister, Marie Hombach; and a grandson, Colin Maybee.

Funeral services and interment were in Delavan, Wis.
