Patricia A. Brown

Patricia A. Brown died unexpectedly after a brief illness on March 11 at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Pat was a lifelong resident of Edgartown and the nurse for all of the Island schools for many years, as well as having a professional affiliation with the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital and Visiting Nurses.

A celebration of her life is planned for Friday, June 27, with an 11 a.m. service at St. Elizabeth’s Church in Edgartown, with a reception to follow. A full obituary will appear in a later edition of the Gazette.

What a sweet woman, and a great school nurse. Of all the memories I have of her, one that stands out, is standing in a line of boys, in underwear, getting a physical, for sports, at Dr. Mills' office with Nurse Brown right beside him. I think the line stretched out the back door of his office on Summer street. How ironic to read that Dr. Mills' son Donny recently passed away. What a sweet man he was. Bless them both.

Pat became a wonderful friend of the Meyer family when she starting working in the summers with my parents, Trudi & Bud Meyer, at Robin Hood's Barn in Edgartown back in the sixties. Even though my parents have long since passed, I still kept in touch and saw Pat every time I returned to Vineyard for a visit. I will remember her kindness, twinkling eyes and gentle spirit.

I was saddened to hear of Pat Brown's passing. I'm very proud to report that I was named after Pat and hope I am doing the honor justice. Pat was my father's dear cousin and I remember fondly the summer of '86 when I visited the Vineyard and stayed with Pat and Aunt Tess. Thank you, Pat.

Hi Pat - thank you so much for writing in. Pat mentioned to me several times that her namesake had visited her from Japan. You can wear her name proudly, she was an exceptional person and will be greatly missed.
