David Schaenman, a Chilmark summer resident, died on June 17. He was 83. A resident of Mamaroneck, N.Y., for over 50 years, David was born in New York city in 1930 to Celia and Morris Schaenman.

David graduated from Brooklyn College and received master’s degrees in history and psychology from the City University of New York and Yeshiva University.

Always interested in others, David founded the Gibson Personnel Agency in New York, was a recruiter for AL Associates and was active with the Center for Modern Psychoanalytic Studies in New York.

David was a devoted, kind and loving husband, father and grandfather, generous with his beloved family and friends. David helped many as a gifted counselor, was a voracious reader — especially on the beaches of Martha’s Vineyard — and enjoyed jazz, basketball, tennis and dancing.

David was survived by Helene (Kampf), his loving wife of 57 years; his daughter Leslie of New York city, son William of Rye Brook, N.Y., daughter Rhea Mallett of Katonah, N.Y., and daughter Tara of San Diego; by seven grandchildren, and by his brother, Ray Sans. He was predeceased by his daughter Cora Osherow.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 22, at 11 a.m. at Temple Sholom, 300 East Putnam avenue, Greenwich, Conn.

Contributions in David’s memory may be sent to The Friends of the Chilmark Public Library, P.O. Box 434, Chilmark, MA 02535.
