Polly (Merritt) O’Leary of Framingham and East Chop, died peacefully, surrounded by friends and family on July 12. She was 72.

She was born Sept. 10, 1941 in Hartford, Conn., the daughter of the late Philip J. and Mary (Skeats) Merritt.

Polly graduated from Wilson College in Chambersburg, Pa., and worked for the Phoenix Companies, Lockwood, Dipple & Green, Equitable, and AXA Insurance. Since she was a young girl, Polly spent much of her summers on her beloved Martha’s Vineyard. She loved watching her favorite golf or tennis pro on TV as well as the New England Patriots, and you would often hearing Polly cheer them on or groan with displeasure.

A loving and generous mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Polly enjoyed spending time with her family and particularly looked forward to her family Thanksgiving celebrations and making Christmas cookies every year, first with her children as they were growing up and then with her grandchildren. Playing mahjong and going out to dinner with friends were typical weekly activities as well as doting on her constant companion, Reilly.

She was survived by her son Peter Thalheimer, his wife Beth and their children Sean, Kylie and Chase; her daughter Kristi Davin, her partner Bruce Sanders and her children Jack and Danny; her stepsons Kevin O’Leary, his wife Jennifer and their child Conor, and Michael O’Leary, his wife Katie and their children Ryan and Rachel. She was also survived by her brothers Michael Merritt and his wife Claire, Tucker Merritt and his wife Donna, and her sister Susan Robertson, her longtime friend Trish O’Leary, her beloved companion Reilly and many nieces and nephews.

Interment was at the Fairview Cemetery in West Hartford, Conn. An evening of remembrance and celebration will be held at the East Chop Beach Club on August 31 from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
