Lucille M. Day of Edgartown, formerly of Pocasset and Norton, died at home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, August 29. She was 87.

She was born Dec. 10, 1926 in Boston to Maurice and Beulah (Rodenhiser) Herman. She was raised in Randolph and was a graduate of Stetson High School. Lucille was the beloved wife of the late Charles A. Day. She worked for many years at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. She was a member of the First Congregational Church.

Lucille loved the ocean and spending time with her family. She spent many winters at her home in Largo, Fla. She often said, “If you play by the rules, you’ll miss all the fun!”

She is survived by her children: Charles A. Day Jr. and his wife Dana of Edgartown, Linda K. Smith and her husband Joseph of Edgartown, Susan L. Stearns and her husband LaRoy of Norton, and Patricia J. Sharples and her husband Tracy of Edgartown; two sisters: Gwendolyn Trinque of Gulfport, Fla., and Priscilla Lyons of Monument Beach; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Dorothy Simmons.

She will be interred at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in a private service. Arrangements are under the care of the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home in Oak Bluffs.
