Marvin Mayhew Burnham of Wilton, Me., died on Friday, Oct. 10, in his home. He was 79.

Marvin was born on Oct. 16, 1934 in Oak Bluffs, the son of Sherman Burnham and Melba Crowell Burnham Jordan.

In his youth, he was educated in the schools of Edgartown, and at the age of 16, he went to sea as a crewman on a private yacht, which allowed him to travel to many places around the world. Following this, he returned to his hometown to work for his father on a construction crew. In 1966, he started the first of what would become many successful construction businesses throughout his life. In 1986, he and his family moved to Maine, where he spent the remainder of his life.

Marvin was a man of great faith whose quiet trust in God was an inspiration to many. His love for his family, devotion to his wife, and generosity of spirit were expressions of his integrity. Some of his favorite things were spending time at the ocean, playing his guitar, riding his motorcycle or in his antique car, woodworking, watching the Red Sox play and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Hanola (Nola) Sylvia Burnham; a son, Clifton Burnham and his wife Lynn of Rome, Ga.; a daughter, Kimberly Miller, and her husband Gilbert of Wilton; stepsons Eric Steigelman and his wife Penni of Ashburnham, Mass., and Christopher Steigelman and his wife Kim of Edgartown; a brother Sherman Burnham of Edgartown, a sister Virginia Omar of Edgartown, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Teresa Burnham Gravely; a sister, Janette, and a granddaughter Olivia Hope Miller.

Funeral services were from the Wiles Remembrance Center, 136 High street, Wilton, with Rev. Mark Remeika of the Grace Bible Church, Dixfield, officiating. Private family interment services were held at the Miller Family Cemetery in Wilton. Tributes and condolences may be shared at wilesrc.com.
