Theodore Zuk Penn of Charlestown, R.I., died at home surrounded by his family on Monday, Oct. 27 at age 74. He had been a resident of Oak Bluffs for 16 years.

Ted had lived his whole life with enthusiasm, courage and grace, even though a major stroke challenged him in 1999. He was born and raised in Washington D.C., where he mainly worked on hot rods until college and two master’s degrees. His life’s work spanned research in historical technology, two museum directorships and website design. He enjoyed all manner of things such as building stone walls, playing guitar, body surfing at Gay Head, working hard all his life. His kindness, sense of humor, faith and fortitude touched many.

He is survived by Nancy, his wife of more than 50 years; his son, Trevor; daughter, Jessica; grandson, Taylor Theodore; sister, Lynne; brothers Mark and Tony; cousin Margaret; and beloved nieces, nephews, and brothers- and sisters-in-law.
