Puppy deVries, an American Eskimo dog from West Tisbury, died on Dec. 28 in Winter Springs, Fla. He was 16.

Puppy was born in the greater Boston area in 1998. He spent time living in Florida, New Orleans, New York and Los Angeles before settling down and moving to the Vineyard full time in 2012.

While on the Island, he enjoyed walks down Music street and had a fond taste for leftover chicken from State Road restaurant. Puppy was often spotted around town going for joyrides and sleeping in the backseat of his owner’s black Kia, or mingling with customers at CRFT SHW in Vineyard Haven. His ears often perked up when listening to music by the Bee Gees.

Over the past few years, Puppy lost his hearing and within the past year, he lost his ability to walk. But Puppy was still a happy dog. With love and help from his owner, Puppy still frequented the outdoors, most recently to feel the cool ocean breeze blow against his snow-colored fur outside the CRFT SHW studio.

He was visiting family in Florida when he passed.

He is survived by his owner, Deanna deVries, and many friends, fans and family members across the nation.
