Burton Fleming M.D. of Chestnut Hill, Pa. and a part-time resident of Edgartown for 25 years, died on May 11.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Lynn O. Fleming, their six children, eight grandchildren, and two step grandchildren.

Dr. Fleming earned his M.D. and was board certified in psychiatry and neurology. He was the first medical director of Northwestern Mental Health Service, the founder, president, and medical director of Horsham Clinic, officer and director of the National Association of Psychiatric Hospitals, president of the Philadelphia Psychiatric Society, and member of The Union League and numerous other societies.

Pursing his many interests and always integrating his family, he was an inveterate water and snow skiier, ice hockey player, ice dancer, multi-engine and instrument-rated pilot, sailor, fisherman, woodworker, and prize-winning bird carver in his latter years.

He and his family had and have wonderful memories of their 25 years at their house in Edgartown, where Dr. Fleming founded The Great Pond Foundation, an environmental organization.

He is and will be forever loved and missed.

A memorial gathering will be held at 4:00 p.m. on June 4 at the Fleming home, 214 Sunrise Lane, Philadelphia, Pa.
