F. Andrew Leslie of Edgartown died on April 29. He was 88.

Raised in Springfield, he served in the Navy in World War II, graduated from Colgate University in 1950, and later earned a master of arts degree from New York University in 1963. After moving to New York city, he worked as a representative for the National Concert & Artists Corporation – Sol Hurok Management, as an agent for the William Morris Agency, and as personal assistant to the actor-producer Maurice Evans before joining the play publishing and licensing company Dramatists Play Service in 1960, where he served as president, becoming a friend and mentor to many emerging playwrights as well as adapting numerous works for the stage himself.

After his retirement to Martha’s Vineyard in 1991, he served on several local boards, including the Martha’s Vineyard Preservation Trust (where he created a concert series at the Old Whaling Church) and the Edgartown Historic District Commission.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Constance (Petie), and his daughter Alison, both of Edgartown, as well as his son Duncan, his daughter-in-law Madeline, and their daughters Abby and Eva, of Redding, Conn.
