Lynn Baird Tipson died on Jan. 18 in Basking Ridge, N.J. He was 96.

He started coming to the Vineyard for summer vacations with the family in 1952 and purchased the Ephraim Allen house in West Tisbury in 1959 from Vineyard Gazette editor Henry Beetle Hough. Lynn and his wife, Yvonne, lived on the Island year-round in the 1990s, when he was active at Grace Episcopal Church in Vineyard Haven.

Lynn was a retired corporate executive and a 1941 graduate of Princeton University. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and piloted 11 missions in a B-24 bomber before being shot down, hospitalized, and sent to a German prison camp until liberation.

Besides his wife of 74 years, Lynn is survived by four children, Lynn Jr. of Gettysburg, Pa., Frederick of Moorestown, N.J., David of Glenside, Pa., and Suzy Hall of Milford, Ohio, as well as 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 30 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Basking Ridge, N.J., with interment at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, N.J.
