Roseate terns. Lanny McDowell

Thursday, May 25, 2017

May brings a flurry of avian activity, with the arrival of colorful songbirds and distinctive shorebirds. Birders keep a close eye on feeders and trees as migrating favorites like ruby-throated hummingbirds, Baltimore orioles, catbirds and indigo buntings return for the season. Black skimmers and least terns return to Vineyard shores.

Keep up to date with bird activity on Martha’s Vineyard through the Bird News column, and report bird sightings to birds@mvgazette.com.
