Not quite the river and woods, but over the Sound to grandmother's house we go. Jeanna Shepard

Now the Island community moves toward the season of holidays and our first appointment is with today's Thanksgiving. It is an important holiday, a day to remind us, even if briefly, that something is right in this world of ours, in a society given too much to complaint about problems and worry about failures.

The Thanksgiving Day holiday is just as important as any other. It is simply celebrated differently, measured for its spirit and meaning — the giving of thanks. Thanksgiving lacks the pomp and pretense of so many other holidays, and for that alone we give thanks.
