In the wake of the George Floyd killing and protests around the world, Eric Adams began interviewing Martha’s Vineyarders, both year-round and seasonal about their experiences with race and racism. A local family therapist raised by a white mother and a Black father, Mr. Adams draws on his own experiences and those of his interview subjects to encourage listeners to shed their old beliefs about race and make room for a new understanding of its impact and implications.
Season 1 of the Shed podcast aired during the summer of 2021. During the summer of 2022, Mr. Adams interviewed another group of Islanders about their experiences. He talked to a corporate executive, a former child actor, a local biracial policeman, a mentor to teenagers, a baker and town leader, and a sports cameraman. The result is a series of stories all connected by a subject not talked about enough: race.
Season 2 of Shed airs on February 16, 2023.
