An Oak Bluffs man was sentenced to four years of probation, and ordered along with his codefendant to pay full restitution, after pleading guilty Monday for his part in the 2011 theft of $85,000 from an elderly Oak Bluffs man.

Daniel Ben David, 49, pleaded guilty to charges of unarmed robbery and larceny over $250 Monday morning before the Hon. Cornelius J. Moriarty 2nd, an associate justice of the Superior Court.

Oak Bluffs Man Sent to State Prison for Role in Safe Heist

An Oak Bluffs man was found guilty Tuesday in Dukes County superior court for the March 2011 theft of an elderly Oak Bluffs man’s life savings, and sentenced to five to seven years in state prison.
A jury of 12 found Stanley Johnson, 52, guilty of unarmed burglary and larceny more than $250. The Hon. Cornelius J. Moriarty 2nd, an associate justice of the superior court, sentenced Mr. Johnson to no less than five and no more than seven years at the Massachusetts Correctional Institution at Cedar Junction, a maximum security prison in Walpole.

Two Arrests After Home Theft; Half of the $85,000 is Missing

A pair who robbed a well-known elderly Oak Bluffs man of his life savings last month have been arrested, although Oak Bluffs police said they have not recovered all the money. Police said $85,000 was stolen from the man, whose name is being withheld, but only about $37,000 has been recovered.

The robbery occurred on March 19, when the man reported to police that his safe had been stolen from his home while he was off-Island visiting family for two days. It contained his life savings of about $85,000, police said.
