Former regional high school lacrosse standout Madison Hughes was named to the All-Northeast Conference First Team last week, one of four players from Central Connecticut State University to make the 14-player roster.
Hughes, a sophomore at Central Connecticut State University, signed with the Blue Devils' program two years ago. A four-year varsity starter and senior captain for the Vineyard squad, she was the first player in the history of the high school girls' program to sign with a division I school.
This is the first season Hughes has earned NEC honors. She led the Blue Devils in ground balls (37 on the season) after making the switch to defense from her former attack/midfield position, and contibuted to the team's offensive effort with five goals and one assist.
