West Tisbury voters go to the polls on Thursday, April 10 for the annual town election. One selectman’s seat and two library trustee seats are contested.

Polls are open from noon to 8 p.m. at the public safety building.

Incumbent selectman Glenn Hearn and challenger Richard Knabel are competing for a three-year term as selectman. James Powell, an announced candidate for selectman, recently notified the town clerk that he has withdrawn from the race. His name still will appear on the ballot.

Four candidates are vying for two three-year terms as library trustee. Incumbents Linda M. Hearn and Hermine Hull are being challenged by Cynthia Riggs and Gregory Orcutt, who are running as a team.

Paul Garcia has withdrawn his candidacy for library trustee. Library trustees serve for three years.

Mrs. Hull and Mrs. Hearn point to their record of accomplishment in a period which included hiring and then replacing the library director while maintaining the quality of the library, which is routinely judged among the best in the state for its size.

Ms. Riggs and Mr. Orcutt say they see a need for fundraising and building a long-term endowment to help increase the size of the library. The two candidates cite public relations and fund-raising skills as important assets to achieve the goal.
