Welcome to summer. It has been great without the wind and it has been warm during the day and cool at night. We do need the rain but it can come at night and clear away for the day.

The Relay for Life event is now over for this year, but it was a success. More than $70,000 was raised by many volunteers, and many team captains worked hard to raise the money. The weather cooperated except for the wind, which kept blowing the luminary bags into the candles and many of them had to be put out. Other than that, it was great walking weather and there were many people who got to see friends they had not seen in awhile. Thank you to all who participated and I hope next year is even bigger than this year.

The Super Kid summer program at the Vineyard Montessori School is set for the season. It’s a weekly theme-based summer program full of creativity and fun. Inspired by a hit PBS kids show encouraging literacy through adventure, the program leads children on a magical journey with events and activities based on a different children’s book each week. Counselors and kids will bring the story to life through movement, music, visual and theatre arts, scientific exploration, water play, neighborhood and beach walks and cooking. Please contact Deborah J. Jernegan, the educational administrative director, at 508-693-4090.

There will be an informational meeting for any high school students, including incoming fall freshmen, who may be interested in cheerleading this fall. The meeting will be held on Monday, June 10 in room 322, which is the health room near the gym, at 3 p.m. The program has new coaches and goals for the upcoming year. If you like to dance, tumble, cheer or want to be a part of bringing school spirit back to the sidelines and the community, please come and hear about this new program.

Congratulations to the graduating class of 2013. Graduation is at the Tabernacle this Sunday. We hope you have good weather and we are all proud of you as you look forward to the next phase of your lives. Be safe and remember if you are not able to drive, hand your keys over to someone who can. Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Kamel Al-Hamid and Mason Cron, who celebrated their day May 30. Isabella Silva celebrated June 1, Jonathan DeOliveira and Kyle Levy on June 2 and Sebastian Garcia and Kaleb Hatt on June 3. Wyatt Belisle celebrated his day June 5.

Special birthday wishes go to Kate Conde, whose birthday was June 4, and Rebecca Townes, who celebrated her day June 5.

Happy anniversary wishes go to Gene and Penny Townes, who will celebrate 43 years together on June 15. Congratulations to you both and here is to many more years together.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
