The following cases were heard in Edgartown district court.
Keona M. Chung, 21, of Hyannis, was arraigned on a July 30 charge in Edgartown of domestic assault and battery. A pretrial hearing is scheduled for August 26.
Jurgen Kolvani, 22, of Oak Bluffs, was arraigned on a July 30 charge in Oak Bluffs of drunken driving, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and marked lanes violation. According to a police report filed in court. Mr. Kolvani allegedly drove a Tisbury Taxi van that crashed into the Bangkok Thai restaurant on Circuit avenue. The police report said the vehicle was found crashed into the building at about 5 a.m. on July 30, and the vehicle and the building were both heavily damaged. Mr. Kolvani was allegedly found asleep on a bench seat in the car. Bail was set at $500 and a pretrial hearing scheduled for August 29.
James A. Kozak, 52, of Vineyard Haven, was arraigned on July 30 charges in Oak Bluffs of domestic assault and battery and malicious destruction of property more than $250 (a computer). A pretrial hearing was scheduled for August 23.
Michael V. Morelli, 22, of Delmar, N.Y., admitted to sufficient facts on an August 1 charge in Edgartown of malicious destruction of property more than $250, continued without a finding for six months. Ordered to pay $500 in restitution. According to a police report filed in court, he allegedly was upset about being removed from the Seafood Shanty restaurant by security, and he used his right elbow to smash a window.
Joshua L. Rogers, 26, of Oak Bluffs, pleaded guilty to Dec. 5 charges in Oak Bluffs of possessing child pornography and a second count of possessing child pornography, amended from distributing material of a child in a sexual act. Ordered to 18 months in a house of correction, 240 days of credit given and placed on probation for four years. Ordered to register as a sex offender, submit a DNA sample, wear a GPS monitor, not to have unsupervised contact with children younger than 14 years old and to pay a $65 monthly probation services fee upon release.
Jireh S. Billings Jr., 24, of Somerville, was arraigned on June 23 charges in Vineyard Haven of assault and battery to intimidate, assault and battery and intimidating a witness. According to a police report filed in court, he allegedly assaulted a taxi driver because of her race and interfered when she tried to call police. The report said there was an argument that a taxi fare was too high and one of the passengers began making racist statements. When the taxi driver tried to call the police, the report said, Mr. Billings allegedly pulled her cap down over her face and grabbed and twisted her wrist “with force.” A pretrial hearing was scheduled for August 15.
Sean D. Thornberry, 22, of Vineyard Haven, had a July 13 charge in Vineyard Haven of assault and battery dismissed upon request of the commonwealth.
Patrick J. Cooley, 26 of Erie, Pa., was arraigned on August 3 charges in Vineyard Haven of drunken driving, fourth offense, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, marked lanes violation, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a class E drug (Clozapine), possession of a class E drug (Adderall) and possession of a class E drug (Ativan). Bail was set at $1,000, and a pretrial hearing scheduled for August 29.
Derrick Sampson, 23, of Quincy, was arraigned on August 4 charges in Oak Bluffs of assault and battery, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. A pretrial hearing was scheduled for Sept. 6.
George G. Szilassy, 67, of Vineyard Haven, was placed on one year of pretrial probation on a June 29 charge in Chilmark of assault and battery, ordered to complete a Brains at Risk course, not to contact/stay away from the alleged victim and to complete eight hours of community service. He was charged with hitting a biker with his fist after the biker confronted him over a near-collision on North Road.
Sonia A. Thomas, 37 of East Providence, R.I., was arraigned on an August 4 charge in Oak Bluffs of possessing a class B drug (cocaine). A pretrial hearing was scheduled for August 29.
