I think after Wednesday’s rain that the ponds are probably full and winter can now come. Then again, I was thinking that if the rain had been snow we would be up to our necks in snow and we would not be happy!

Happy birthday to all those who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Brendan Morris and Hannah Tate-Arena, who celebrated their day Dec. 2; Jasmyn Hershey, Dec. 3; Michaela Benefit, Katherine Conover and Karla Robadel, Dec. 5; Danielle Meyer, Dec. 7; Victoria Scott, Dec. 8; Aedan Coogan, Colton Filiault, Warner Hess and Joshua Pinto, who all celebrated Dec. 10; Danielle Oteri, Dec. 11, and to Alissa Habekost, who celebrates her day Dec. 12.

The countdown is now on, and I am now jealous of all those people who bragged two months ago that their Christmas shopping was done and wrapped. I am trying to get my decorations up, but it sure has been a challenge. It seems like the time is flying by.

Speaking of decorations, I told you that Donaroma’s starts off Christmas in Edgartown with the Evening of Enchantment. By the time you read this it may be over or it is the day of. But with all the wind we went through, so many practices with the lights, and for days we arrived to find switches off, the lights blown out, and even Santa and his sleigh blew over in Wednesday’s wind. So, by the time you read this I hope you have enjoyed your night.

The town has also put up the trees and Tom Bassett and his helpers were out putting up the lights and wrapping the street lights. They too were getting blown around, but as usual it looks great. The town is sure ready to welcome Santa and all the little children waiting to see him and give him their lists.

Every year I usually explain why I close my article with “Keep the home candles burning,” and I have explained it for a couple of years, so I figure there might be a few new readers so I owe it to them. When I was little I had two older brothers and they were both in the service. One was in the Marines and the other one in the Navy. Every Christmas my parents would decorate the house and we always had candles in the windows. They usually put colored lights in all the windows except one, which was the window on the right side of the sidewalk. In that window they put a white light. I asked why they only had one white light and they explained that it was to help guide my brothers home safely. So with everything going on in the world today and all the service men and women that are away from home all year long, I have put a light in my window with the hope we can guide many more home safely. Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
