It is the second week in December and we are still wearing just a light jacket, no gloves and heavy coats. To some this is good, it makes others nervous that something worse is about to happen. Either way we will take the warm weather as long as we can get it. Of course there is always hope for snow for Christmas.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Michaela Benefit, Katherine Conover and Karia Robadel who celebrated Dec. 5; Danielle Meyer, Dec. 7; Aedan Coogan, Colton Filiault and Joshua Pinto, Dec. 10; and to Danielle Oteri, who celebrates her day today Dec. 11.

The Evening of Enchantment at Donaroma's is coming. It has been a very busy week but things are looking so beautiful. Jeff and his crew have the music and dancing trees all in sync so if you get a chance go after dark, turn your radio to the channel posted on the sign and sit back and watch the show. It has been a very popular spot and many people young and old enjoy it. The show will continue until after Christmas. The Edgartown library embraces the spirit of the holiday season with an open house on the afternoon of Saturday, Dec. 12. As part of the festivities of Christmas in Edgartown, the library invites you to stop in for a cup of warm mulled cider and some tasty treats between 1 and 4 p.m. Be sure to enjoy the Christmas village on display while you’re here.

The library is offering free craft programs that afternoon, and you can take a guess at the Candy Cane Challenge, a project of the Friends of the Library. A $25 gift certificate from Sharkey’s Cantina is the grand prize. Guesses are $1 each or six for $5, and proceeds support our library programs. The winner will be announced on Dec. 23.

Most of you know that I shine a white light in my window year-round to help guide the service men and women home. It is a tradition my parents did when my brothers were in the service. We have been doing this over 60 years and we are still fighting wars and the violence has risen. Here is to some hope that the New Year will bring some peace and love to this country.

Have a great week. Hope you can get your Christmas shopping done, and keep the home candles burning.
