Here we are in the second week of March and we are almost breaking heat highs. Of course, we have the wind factor that keeps us cooler but we will get our payback in August when it is 100 degrees in the city and we have a cool breeze keeping us under 80.
Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Ryan Noia and Dommony Ribeiro, who celebrated their day March 5; William Bruguiere, March 7; and to Addison McDonough and Keira Willoughby who celebrated their day March 10.
I celebrated my day last week with a great friend who I met in 1984 when she was a college student who came to the Vineyard to work. I was working at Village Fair when Carrie O’Connor started her first day and in my kidding way picked on her. Thinking that I didn’t like her she was determined that we were going to be friends, and it worked.
We have a long distance friendship as she lives in New Jersey, but we have been through marriages, babies being born, and unfortunately funerals.
So Carrie’s birthday is March 6, mine March 3, so we had a great weekend along with her daughter, my goddaughter Cathleen, and good friend Michelle Calabrese. We went to dinner, lunches and more dinner. We did the shopping bit and they laughed when I said we were going to the city, Vineyard Haven. It was fun and we did a lot of laughing. This will go down in my books as one of my favorite birthdays.
Spring is in the air. The crocuses in my yard are blooming and the daffodils are showing their buds. The buds are showing on the shrubs and Jan Norton told me the red-winged blackbirds were in her yard.
I saw the kids playing basketball at the Boys & Girls Club and the soccer field had kids playing ball on it. That sound is music to my ears.
Also, don’t forget about the new workout area at the park. It was open late last fall but there are many pieces of equipment to help with cardio and weight training. Each piece has instructions and how many reps you should do. It is all done by your own weight and strength and it is a great workout. So if you are trying to get in shape for summer, stop by and try it out. It is free and you are outside.
I am noticing lights on in houses that have been closed up for the winter and you know it is either the owner or the caretakers here getting ready to open up the houses. The landscapers are coming out slowly, and the painters loading up on supplies to freshen up houses.
Don’t forget to turn your clocks ahead this weekend. It will be great to have it light until six, but it will be hard in the morning when it will be dark at six.
Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
