The good news this week is the adoptions of both Rugby and Smores (aka TC). Congratulations to these tuxedo cats and their new families. Here’s to many happy years together with lots of purrs in these purrmanent homes.

Our wonderful Native American Shepherd Dog, Kyra, is beginning to come out of her shell. She is getting some gentle training, and with her superior intelligence is coming along nicely. She is a large girl and very beautiful. Sweet as can be. Please come meet this lovely lady and see if there’s a place for her in your heart.

We have some new arrivals at the shelter. First up is a female Siamese cat mix found as a stray in the vicinity of Great Plains Road in West Tisbury. She is going by the name Pretty and is very friendly. She must belong to someone. Please contact the shelter immediately if you think she may be your missing cat.

Next up is year-old calico Colleen and her two kittens. The kittens are about eight weeks old but need a bit more socializing before being ready to got to their new homes. There is also a solid orange kitty we’re calling Pounce and a tuxedo named Tennessee.

Another pair of kittens still being socialized is brother and sister Bonnie and Clyde. Bonnie is a brown and black tiger who loves having her ears rubbed, and Clyde is a tuxedo with an adorable half mustache. They are now about seven weeks old, almost ready to go to their forever homes.

And we all love our petite gray cat Lola, the Russian Blue, who is absolutely gorgeous with beautiful green eyes and the softest fur imaginable. If you are looking for that new companion you couldn’t go wrong with this cat. Once in a home she will be real snuggler.

We would also like to thank Susan Leland for donating her gardening expertise for the shelter grounds, giving our environs a lovely facelift.

Another reminder that the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard’s annual Garden Party will be held on Monday, June 27 from 5 to 7:30 p.m., rain or shine. There will be silent, live and ticket auctions. Please contact the shelter at manager@animalshelterofmv.org for more information.

Lastly, the shelter would like to remind all pet owners to make sure to stay current with your tick and flea preventative measure of choice. Additionally, with the warmer weather now upon us, remember of how quickly temperatures rise in a closed vehicle. Please do not leave your pets in what can rapidly become a deadly situation.

Shelter hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday and Monday.
