Time to get your ducks in a row (and tested) for the Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Society Fair.

Staff from the state Department of Agricultural Resources will be on the Vineyard on Tuesday, July 19 to test poultry for the fair. They will only be on site for one day and requests for testing should be made no later than Wednesday, July 13.

Testing will be done on the fairgrounds from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Poultry must be 16 weeks of age or older.

To schedule testing contact the inspector, Megan Megrath, at 617-872-9960 or megan.megrath@state.ma.us and included the number of birds in your flock. They will attempt to schedule testing throughout the day to minimize wait times.

The flock owner must be present and available to handle the birds and assist the inspector.

There are two testing categories. One option is testing the entire poultry flock, which applies if you have never had your flock tested, if you have an expired test (if the flock was not tested in 2015), or if birds have been added to a tested flock from an unknown and untested source.

The second category is testing only birds that will be shown. You qualify for this category if your flock was tested and negative in 2015, and you have records indicating that any new additions to your flock were from a salmonella pullorum negative flock. If this requirement is met, tests are required for only birds being shown.
