Edgartown selectmen approved removal of a shade tree during a brief meeting Monday.

The board authorized the owners of 65 Davis Lane to take down a sycamore maple. Cammie Naylor of Donaroma’s who represented the property owner, said the tree is covered with ivy.

Selectman Michael Donaroma recused himself from the hearing.

Tree warden Stuart Fuller said he supported the tree removal, as long as the sycamore maple was replaced with another tree common to the Vineyard. The selectmen approved the request with a deadline of May 31 for replacing the tree.

In other business during the eight minute meeting, selectmen approved renewal forms for 2017 annual liquor licenses, and approved a one-day liquor license for the Edgartown water department, which will host the town holiday party on Dec. 14.
