Maritime historian Matthew Stackpole will lead a voyage to the 19th century next week for the Sail Martha’s Vineyard monthly dinner lecture series.

Mr. Stackpole, a West Tisbury resident, most recently served as historian for the whale ship Charles W. Morgan. Next week he will recount the history of another ship, the 1894 Gloucester schooner Ernestina-Morrissey, which was used for fishing, trips to the Arctic, and to carry immigrants and goods to and from the Cape Verde islands from the United States. It is a National Historic Landmark vessel currently undergoing a three-year restoration.

The dinner starts at 6 p.m. at the Black Dog Tavern in Vineyard Haven. Tickets are $25. For more information contact 508-696-7644.
