I am writing to retract several statements I made in an article that appeared in the Vineyard Gazette on Dec. 8, 2016, titled “Opposition to Artificial Turf Proposal Grows.”

In the article, I said that Gale Associates designed about 30 turf fields that failed in Massachusetts. I have since learned that Gale has designed over 200 turf fields, with more than 100 of them in Massachusetts, and that Gale has not

been informed of any failures. As to the particular products that I was alluding to as being defective, I have also been informed that Gale has not designed the 30 fields using the products.

I also said that Gale knew of defects in the fields it designed, that its fees were excessive, and that it has a record of treating owners improperly. These statements are inaccurate.

Since the article appeared, I have learned of Gale’s successful track record designing turf fields across Massachusetts and other states, of charging

reasonable fees, and of treating project owners fairly.

I apologize to Gale Associates Inc. for my inaccurate statements.
