The Edgartown marine response unit and state environmental police came to the aid of an injured person aboard a boat off Chappaquiddick on Friday.

Emergency responders received a call for assistance from a power boat off Cape Pogue just before 2:30 p.m. Friday, according to press releases from the fire and police departments. The response unit located the vessel with assistance from the state environmental police boat. A medic stayed with the injured person until he was stabilized on the boat. The person, who was not identified, was taken to shore and transferred to the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital.

Deputy fire chief Alex Schaeffer said rough waters contributed to the man’s injury.

The marine response unit is a joint program between the Edgartown police and fire departments.
