A mosquito collected in West Tisbury has tested positive for West Nile virus, town and state public health public health officials announced Friday.

The mosquito was collected from the southeast quadrant of town on Sept. 18, although state health officials would not specify the location, West Tisbury health agent Omar Johnson said.

A mosquito collected in the Veterans Park area of Vineyard Haven tested positive for the virus last month.

No human cases of West Nile have been reported on Martha’s Vineyard.

Health officials urged residents to take all the common precautions, including wearing protective clothing, using insect repellent and draining standing water from yards and driveways.
