The driver of the Toyota Tacoma that rolled over on Metcalf Drive last Friday was a 17-year-old junior operator who will be cited for violating the restrictions on his license, Edgartown police chief Bruce McNamee said Monday.

Edgartown police, fire and paramedics responded to the scene of the rollover of the silver pickup truck at about 4:30 p.m. Friday. State police also responded. No other vehicles were involved.

The driver and two passengers were not seriously injured and no one was transported to the hospital. Police said later that the driver had apparently lost control. The vehicle came to rest on the passenger side on the east side of Metcalf Drive, a road that leads to a residential area off the Edgartown-West Tisbury Road.

Chief Bruce McNamee said Monday that all the people in the truck were minors. He said the driver, a male, was summonsed for negligent operation of a motor vehicle, marked lanes violation, speeding, and violation of the junior operator license restriction, as the operator was too young to be driving with passengers in the car.

“We’re certainly relieved no one was injured,” Chief McNamee said.
