A total of 25 students from Martha’s Vineyard earned recognition for their work in this year’s Boston Globe Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, an annual statewide competition.

The Martha's Vineyard Regional High School was well represented with 19 students receiving awards, including five gold keys — the top prize. Three students from the Martha's Vineyard Public Charter School and two students from the West Tisbury School received honorable mention awards for photography and writing.

Students submitted work across the art and design disciplines, including photography, ceramics, sculpture, industrial design, drawing, illustration and digital art.

Sophomores Owen Metell and Sophie Nevin, and juniors Tom Sykes, Davin Tackabury and Avalon Weiland all won gold keys.

There were five silver keys and 14 honorable mentions.

Gold key winners will move on to national judging at the Scholastic Art Awards in New York City in March. A regional ceremony will be held on March 16 in Boston. An exhibition of the top works will be open from March 16 to 25, as well as in the high school library conference room for the month of March.
