On Friday night Islanders will gather to call for an end detention of migrants in facilities with inadequate living conditions. Similar events are being held across the country and are called Lights for Liberty: A Vigil to End Human Concentration Camps. The Island vigil will take place at Memorial Park in Edgartown from 8:15 p.m. to 9:15 p.m.

“We think it’s important to represent the Island in solidarity with other members of this group across the country the larger the number, the larger the message will be that we’re not going to sit back and allow this treatment of other human beings,” said Vineyard vigil organizer Carla Cooper.

The event is being organized by Indivisible Martha’s Vineyard.

Those attending are asked to park at the Edgartown School.
