Olivia R. Larsen and Michael P. Gately of West Tisbury were married on Saturday, August 24, at the Sailing Camp Park in Oak Bluffs.

The bride’s parents are John and Susan Larsen of Chilmark and the bridegroom’s parents are Michael and Betsy Gately of West Tisbury.

Olivia’s sisters Brigida and Abigail Larsen were the couple’s attendants. Capt. John Christensen, an instructor at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy and sea captain, officiated the nuptials. Music for the processional was provided by the bride’s cousin Suzanne Stumpf and her husband Dan Ryan from the Musicians of the Old Post Road.

The newlyweds met in 2006 while students at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School and their romance continued for the next 13 years. In June 2018, Michael proposed marriage aboard the U.S.S. Constitution in Boston.

Olivia graduated from Lasell College in 2012 with a bachelor of arts degree in English with secondary educator licensure, and received her master’s degree in library and information science from Drexel University in 2014. She is currently the program coordinator at the West Tisbury Library.

Michael graduated from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy in 2011 with a bachelor of science degree in marine transportation, and was also commissioned as an officer in the Navy Reserves. He is currently a chief mate aboard LNG tankers with Hoegh LNG of Oslo, Norway. He is a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Reserves.

The couple is planning a honeymoon for the spring and will live in the West Tisbury home they built together.
