At this time, our Island animal shelter remains open for official business and by appointment only.

We are delighted to report that all four Guinea pigs have moved on to their forever homes. The boys went together and so did the girls. Congratulations everyone.

This week we’ll be featuring Ellie and Pumpkin. These cats are indoor/outdoor housemates and will be staying in their home until a perfect match is found. Ellie is a petite calico who loves to stay at home. Chasing the laser and playing with ponytail holders are her favorite pastimes.

Pumpkin, the orange male, is a character. He loves to walk the grounds of the property and watch out the window for any wildlife. He will follow on walks around the neighborhood and he loves lying in the sun and playing with the turkeys. He is a hunter by nature and the rodents have learned to steer clear of him. He’s also very vocal.

Both cats are very sweet but a little on the nervous side. They tolerate being held for short periods of time ask for pets from time to time. They love each other and will often snuggle. It would be best if these two could stay together and would best in a home without other cats. These cats are also tolerant of children and up to date on all their vaccines.

Our other cat is Summer, the Ragdoll mix who would love to find a home. There are two other cats in residence but they aren’t ready for adoption yet.

The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard is here for our community. We’re always available and our door is always open should your adoption not be a perfect fit. Also, if anyone is in need of cat food, dog food, or a crate, we have plenty and are happy to share. The Island Food Pantry also has pet food for those in need. Just give us a call during regular shelter hours.
