The following cases were heard in Edgartown district court.
Sept. 11
David C. Murphy, 68, of Vineyard Haven, was arraigned on Sept. 9 charges in Oak Bluffs of negligent operation of a motor vehicle, a third offense of drunken driving, leaving a scene of property damage and four charges of wanton destruction of property valued at more than $1,200. Defendant held at Dukes County Correctional Facility. On Sept. 22, defendant’s request to reconsider detention order denied. Discovery, compliance and jury election scheduled for Oct. 13. SRE scheduled for Jan. 8, 2024.
Sept. 14
Benjamin C. Stafford, 42, who the court lists as homeless, was arraigned on a Sept. 1 charge in Edgartown of violating an abuse prevention order. Defendant released on personal recognizance. Pretrial hearing scheduled for Nov. 30.
Sept. 15
Leandro Defreitas, 37, of Vineyard Haven, was arraigned on June 3 charges in West Tisbury of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and improperly operating a mobile phone. Found not responsible on charge of improper use of a mobile phone. Charge of unlicensed operation waived at the time of disposition and on the record. Charge of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle dismissed. Case closed.
Sept. 18
Rachel Lucier, 36, of Edgartown, was arraigned on a Sept. 16 charge in West Tisbury of assault and battery on a family or household member. Defendant released on payment of $300 bail. Pretrial hearing scheduled for Nov. 20.
Sept. 22
Gian A. Ribeiro, 22, of Vineyard Haven, was arraigned on March 6 charges in West Tisbury of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and a first offense of using an electronic device while operating a motor vehicle. Charge of operating an unlicensed motor vehicle dismissed on recommendation of Probation Department. Found not responsible on charge of using an electronic device while operating a motor vehicle. Case closed.
Sept. 25
Danae A. Finley, 34, who the court lists as homeless, was arraigned on a Dec. 28, 2022 charge in Vineyard Haven of leaving a scene of property damage. Defendant released on personal recognizance. Pretrial hearing scheduled for Oct. 30.
Wagner E. Nunes, 31, of Edgartown, was arraigned on Sept. 24 charge in Oak Bluffs of assault and battery on a family or household member. Defendant released on personal recognizance and payment of $150 counsel fee. Pretrial hearing scheduled for Nov. 3.
