Summertime means baseball at the Shark Tank on Martha’s Vineyard.
The Martha’s Vineyard Sharks summer collegiate league opens their 14th season on Tuesday, June 3, with a home game against the Vermont Mountaineers. First pitch is at 6:35 p.m.
New additions at the ball park this year include more food service for easier access, according to general manager Russ Curran.
“We’re going to be offering food in the beer garden area as well this year,” he said. “[We also have] a brand new food trailer with three windows to service everybody a lot quicker.”
While this year’s roster is already set, some players are still in limbo as Mr. Curran is short nine beds and looking for more host families.
But even with some questions marks remaining, Mr. Curran said he excited about the coming season.
“We’ve got some great players coming from everywhere, like Texas A&M and USC, and we should have a good team,” he said.
The Sharks will celebrating Jaws Night on June 19 as part of the Island’s Jaws 50th celebrations this summer.
“That is going to be huge for us,” Mr. Curran said.
The Sharks play at home again on June 5 against South Bristol.
“You can still go there and get a burger, hotdog and watch a game for $15,” Mr. Curran said. “It’s the cheapest place to get food on the Island [while] watching a game.”
