The Summer Moon, the full moon of June, takes place on Wednesday. The Moon is moving through one of the southernmost zodiacal constellations Scorpius, the mythological scorpion. Throughout all of next week, the moon moves through the constellations of summer. Later in the week, the moon appears in Sagittarius.
This brilliant moon will be a delight. For those standing near the waterfront or on the beach, the moon appears close to the southern horizon. If you are so lucky to be out wandering you'll see the glitter path, a personal line that runs from you, the observer, to the moon far away on the horizon. The ocean is glittering, shining and a poet's treasure.
If you look on Monday night, you'll see the gibbous moon appear near the bright red star Antares, the main star in the constellation. Antares is a ruby red celestial object reminding us all that the night sky is full of color and drama.
The full moon is not a big moon. On Monday, the moon was in apogee, that farthest part of the moon's orbit around the earth. Tides will not be so dramatic as they were two weeks ago when the moon was in perigee, closer to the Earth.
