The town of Tisbury has closed its local transfer station on weekends, due to a staffing shortage.

“We are extremely short handed,” public works director Kirk Metell told the Gazette Friday.

Last year, Tisbury cut the local drop-off hours for refuse and recycling, opening later on weekdays but preserving the weekend hours.

The LDO now is open only on Monday, Thursday and Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The town is recommending that residents sign up for the municipal curbside collection program, posted on the tisburyma.gov website, or bring refuse and recyclables to the Oak Bluffs transfer station on Pennsylvania avenue at County Road.
